Although giraffes possess long necks, they share the same number of neck vertebrae as humans – seven. The remarkable length of giraffes’ necks stems from the elongation of these individual vertebrae rather than an augmentation in their quantity. This distinctive anatomy enables giraffes to access high branches and leaves in trees, which constitute their main food source.
